So yesterday was week 7 of my photography class which also means my second last session of the course. I'm quite sad that it's ending soon because I think that the class is really getting more interesting. Our last session is scheduled for this sunday morning and we are going to be meeting up in the city. Rick is going to bring us out and about and show us the technique of outdoor shooting. It will be great fun and i'm really looking forward to it. It's bitter sweet really; sad that the class is ending but happy that we are going to be doing something fun.
So last night was all about studio portrait. It was our first time being in the studio and we got to learn all about studio photopraphy. Setting up the equipment, setting our camera on the right metering, correct lighting, exposure and also touch on abit about green screen technology and the post production using the relevant software to edit the photos.
Daniella and Summer volunteered to be our models and we had to shoot them in two different backdrops using the same exposure so that we could understand the difference of how the colour of backdrop could affect the outcome of the photos. And also the position of the light, the angle you shoot from all would also determine how the photo will look.
I shot both Daniella and Summer on f.8 1/125sec on ISO 100.
Daniella on a white backdrop
I loved how Summer's photo came out as it has more depth. It has more character in terms of the lighting and with the strong shadow on her. Both sets are on the same exposure but look how different they are by just having a different colour backdrop.

Summer on the black backdropOnce i've done with using the studio flash light. I re-set my metering and cranked up my ISO to 1600 and set my aperture to f.4 using the same shutter speed and took some shot of Michael using only just the light on the subject without and any flash light. The outcome came out pretty good.

Studio photography can be really interesting. Especially now that green screen technology is so much in use, studio would be great for that. Of course bearing in mind that there are alot of post production to be done if you go that path. Not forgetting that you first of all, need a studio space, which you can easily transform any part of your home into one but you would definitely need some moolah to get the right equipments for your studio. And that means kaching-kaching.
I'm definitely signing up to the Intermediate class at the end of the year when the next semester starts.

But I think i'm more of an editorial photography kind of girl. I'd probably pursue that genre more than I would pursue any other. But it doesn't hurt trying out different things.
Besides, i'm still so new to this whole photography she-bang. This is only the tip of the iceberg, there's still so much more to learn.
