a diary of baby mclean in the making...

I have been keeping a week by week pregnancy journal since D-day. I thought its a nice way of reflecting back this pregnancy in the future. I'm quite sentimental like that.

I also think its a good way of tracking back and see how far I've come and celebrate a milestone reached. :)

First Trimester Diary

I found out I was preggers on 11.1.11. How’s that for cool digits? The few early pregnancy symptoms that got me suspicious were fatigue and lower backaches. That’s when I knew something must be up and sure enough, lo & behold, the two pink lines! I stared at the two pink lines and thought to myself 'is this for real?!' I just couldn't believe how quick it was. We called both our parents and inform them about the news straight away! My mum is thrilled that we are going to have a 'bunny' baby! Oh Chinese mothers! :)

I had my first GP appointment this week and it went well. The doctor weighed me and asked me a couple of questions as part of the routine. She also calculated that I am around 5 ½ weeks pregnant and am due on 20th September. We also talked through about my antenatal choice of care, which hospital I wish to go to and other necessary things that I needed to know. We booked to see her again in 4 weeks time, when I am at 10 weeks.

This week is the start of the embryonic stage. I’m trying to be as careful and healthy as I can be as these couple of weeks are going to be critical. I’m apprehensive yet anxious and hoping that everything will go well and baby M will grow healthy and develop properly without a glitch! I have not suffered much morning sickness yet (should not count my lucky stars yet), although some mornings I tend to feel nausea but that sensation didn’t last very long. Fatigue is still there. In bed by 8.30pm every night.

My morning sickness hit me hard this week. I had this headache that comes and goes and is always accompanied by the feeling of puking, like sea sick (read: The nasty nausea). I get tired easily and am always counting down the hours to 5pm. I really struggled at work. My sensitivity to smells got worsen and I swear I almost hurl at the smell of other people’s perfume! Can you believe it? I was a mess! My belly is looking a little podgier, more especially after eating and sadly most of my clothes are not fitting me without making me look like I’ve eaten a whole pie. I’ve ordered some maternity clothes online so hopefully they turn out fancy and not make me look like little miss frumpy.

I am still riding through the morning sickness and I find it terribly hard to juggle that with work and having to keep everything under my belt without anyone knowing. I have so far took two sick leaves since and my boss commented to me that I have been looking unwell and hope everything is alright. I really wanted to tell him but I just have to wait it out. Unbeknownst to me that I found out his wife is also 4 months pregnant. I have a feeling he might be suspecting since he’s got experience with pregnant woman! Whatever it is, I don’t really care. If he did asked me, I will just be honest to him. Seriously, if I could have it my way, I would broadcast it to everyone and make my life easier. My girlfriend, Rochelle, who is almost full term pregnant, told me or should I say, reminded me that, to be able to feel morning sickness during this time is a good thing, it means that the baby is well and healthy! Let’s hope so shall we!

I am a pee monster this week! Most nights, I had to get up 5 to 6 time to pee and it’s so annoying! I made the decision to share the news to both my bosses and I’m glad I did. It felt such a relief! They were very happy for me and so supportive! I definitely feel the love which is good because initially I didn’t know how it would go down when I break the news to them. We saw the doctor this week and it went well, no dramas. Also had my blood drawn to check for risk of chromosome abnormalities which ties in with my first trimester scan in a couple of weeks. I am still very bloated and puffy all over, which is very annoying. My belly is definitely podgier this week, something that I think I will have to get use to I think!

This week, my morning sickness somehow went away. I feel much better and somewhat human. Although I have been getting pretty bad back aches that were so bad that it affected my sleeping at night. I have been using my heat-pack to ease off the pain temporarily and I used it every night before I go to bed. It did help me sleep better. I have also gone to the gym for the first time since finding out about the pregnancy and did an awesome sweat pouring exercise. It felt great but I think I overdid it a bit because I feel so exhausted afterwards.

So far, this week has been awesome. I feel like a superhuman and my energy level has risen tremendously! Bye-bye Nausea!! I also have started cooking again which is great because I love cooking and it somewhat made me feel normal again you know. My in laws are here with us this week and will be here for a month. I had my first trimester scan this week and I took my in laws with me. The ultrasound went brilliantly well! Seeing our little dumpling for the first time was AMAZING! It was so special and it suddenly dawn on me that everything is becoming very real! I also began to announce to the whole world about the pregnancy. This week has been amazingly special as we have crossed another milestone in this baby making journey.
