These few weeks have been quite draining and I am longing for a proper rest, or more like a proper good night sleep! Lately, Scarlett has had her fair share of annoying bouts of ear infection and the common cold. As much as it’s very tiring and trying for both John and I, especially during the night, I really feel sorry for my little munchkin.
Her latest ear infection was the worse. About two weeks ago, I discovered yellow gooey stuff coming out from both her ears. Initially I thought that her earwax was over producing because she wasn’t showing any sign of pain or anything. So I cleaned them but they kept coming back every few hours and at one point, it got so bad that it completely covered her ear-hole. I thought that was NOT normal for ear wax and sent her to the doctor and only to find out that she had an ear infection and to be exact, she had perforated ear drums! What it meant was that the ear infection causes mucus to be collected in her middle ear hence causes pain (It finally clicked to me that it might be the reason why she was absolutely cranky a week ago while the grandparents were here and we all thought that it was teething!). So her ear drums managed to bursts itself therefore allowing the mucus to drain out and it gave her some relieve. But when I hear ear drums and burst in the same sentence had me worried like hell! I thought she might be deaf or something but doctor assured me that it is normal and not to panic that she still could hear! Hallelujah!
She was put on a dose of antibiotics and we were warned that they normally causes diarrhea therefore we also gave her probiotics to counter that. She finished her first course with no problems, went back to the doctor to get it check and found out that the drums were still red, so she was put on another stronger dose of antibiotics. But this time, due to it being a stronger medication, it has major side effects on her. It causes her to have pretty bad diarrhea and projectile vomiting. With frequent explosive poos come nasty nappy rash! My heart aches whenever I do a nappy change because she would be screaming from pain! The vomiting doesn’t help either! As we recently have totally weaned her off formula and put her on cow’s milk, we were not sure if it’s the antibiotics or if she’s lactose intolerant or a bit of both. So right now we have stopped giving her dairy products and put her back on her formula until her diarrhea and vomiting stop.
Hopefully we can tackle this ear infection and the side effects real soon! I want my baby to be healthy again and also looking forward to getting my beauty sleep (sanity)!!
