I have friends and colleagues asking me how I manage my life around juggling motherhood and working full time, and yet have no families (both sides) living in Perth for support.
Well, you just do, really. There's no special magic to it. I'm not a wonder woman. I have bad days and I have good days. I also rely heavily on John and vice versa but most importantly, I find that you need a structure in your daily life to enable you to function properly. A routine so to speak.
I find that having a routine is very important and essential when you have kids in your life. We lead a busy life and without one, I think our life would be chaos! Given that I have already been back to the workforce almost a year soon, we are somewhat a pro at this and have already had our routine smack down to a T.
So here's what my weekdays look like in general:
5.45 - 6am - John gets up while I snooze in somemore (This has only happened since Jan this year because I am usually the one up first at 5am getting ready before everyone gets up. But Scarlett tend to sleep in later now so I get the luxury to snooze in abit more since I'm always up in the middle of the night attending to her if she fusses)
6 - 6.20am - I hit the shower and get dress into my gym clothes. I also usually start packing my gym bag at this time. John cooks and eat his breakfast, irons his shirt and makes a bottle for Scarlett.
6.20 - 6.30am - I wake Scarlett up, change her diaper, feed her a bottle and brush her teeth.
6.30 - 6.45am - I pack my lunch and Scarlett's bag and load everything into the car. John then put Scarlett into the car and I'd go into the house and make sure lights are off, doors and windows are locked and out the door we go.
7.30 - 7.40am - We drop Scarlett off at daycare. John drops me off at the gym and he goes to work.
7.40 - 9am - Gym time for me.
9 - 4.30pm- I get into work. Eat my breakfast at my desk and start my day. At times, John and I will meet for lunch and use this time to run errands.
4.30 - 5.30pm John picks Scarlett up from daycare, and then picks me up.
5.30 - 7pm - We get home and the usual evening drama starts. I cook dinner while John plays with Scarlett and watch the news at the same time. We eat dinner and after dinner everyone hang out in the living room and play silly bugger with Scarlett.
7 - 7.30pm - I put the bubble bath on for Scarlett. We read books, give her last bottle of the day, more cuddles and get her ready for bed. John goes to the gym during this time as well.
7.30 - 8pm - I put Scarlett to sleep. On days that John doesn't go to the gym he'll put Scarlett to bed.
8 - 9.30pm - Do the dishes, unwind infront of the telly and surf the internet. This is what we call the Parent-o-clock!
9.30-10pm - I'm off to bed to read or catch-up on my drama shows online.
10.30pm - All lights are off usually by this time!
The whole routine then gets repeat the next morning! This is basically what my life looks like during the week. Pretty much.
You guys are amazing! So efficient! I've to say that makes me really ashamed of my own "routine/work".
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't be! Its different. When we were childless i don't think we have any sort of set routine too! With Scarlett, it's like a force to be reckoned with hahaha...
