Running

I have caught on the running bug since the beginning of the year. In fact, it started off purely as a weight lost routine when I embarked on a program to lose weight. I went to the gym almost every day of the week and did lots of walking/ jogging on the treadmill, swimming, stationary bike.

Apart from my gym sessions, I also did the Jacobs Ladder, which I had blogged about previously. So I have been rather active so to speak and working out now has been far more easier and enjoyable, compared to what it was at the start where it felt like death. I think having to lose the 15kg might have helped heaps.

Anyway, I've developed the love for running. I'm surrounded with a lot of runners and athletic fanatics at work. I don't know if I'm imagining things or that a lot of people I know in Perth are fitness freaks. Half the ladies (not including the men) at work run and that's pretty much 70% given that we don't have a lot of females working in our organisation. I guess their running vibes do rub off on you.

One of my workmate, Louise, is an ultra marathon runner. By that I mean she runs 60K-80K marathons. That's about anywhere between 6 - 9 hours non stop running! She also travels overseas to do big runs. She is my true inspiration, although I know I'll never run that far, let alone attempt to aim running a full marathon.

Since I am feeling so much better in myself in terms of my physical fitness, I have decided to do my first 5K run later on in the year. My workmate Jan and I are signing up for two runs later in the year, the City to Surf and the Colour Run. I'll start small and see how I go.

I have started training for the runs since last week. Jan and I have started to go running during lunch hour. Instead of doing the Jacobs Ladder, we are now running in the bush! The best part is that, the bush (Kings Park) is just across the street from our office!

I'll let you know how my progress goes on here but so far it's been awesome and I feel so liberated. Who would have thought that I could run! This was impossible a few months ago.

I guess, you can do anything if you set your mind to it.

xo, Miss Leney
