pregnancy diaries

Nothing exciting to report this week. Everything is per normal and I’m cruising along finely. I do am quite excited and anxious about my 20 week scan next week and hopefully everything will go to plan. Still can’t guess if I’m having a boy or girl, although a lot of friends and colleagues speculate that I will be having a girl, judging from the roundness of my belly. We shall see!

So we had our 20 week scan this week. It was quite memorable! I was as usual a nervous nelly and excited at the same time. The sonographer was nice and we had quite a chit chat during the procedure. She explained to us what she’s doing, what she’s checking on and it was amazing to see how baby has grown! She even made us guess what sex of the baby is for one last time and waited till the end to reveal the gender, so cheeky. So towards the end she gladly declared that we, the McLean’s are going to be having a baby girl! We were so over the moon! We could see clearly her developed arms and legs and at one point we caught a glimpse of her cute little lips in sucking motion! OMG too cute I can die! Aside from all the good stuff, she mentioned that I have a low lying placenta so will need a follow-up scan at 32 weeks. I was quite worried and asked if this is something I should be concern about but she assured me that it is quite common and the placenta will move upwards and away from the birth canal as the belly gets bigger, which is often the case. If it’s still low by then, I would be scheduled in for a C-section for the birth. I’m not really bummed out about it – I think I took it pretty well because I’ve come to terms that the baby has to come out either way so whatever is best for us is most important!

Nothing much to report as this week seemed to cruise by quickly. I’m starting to feel more flutters but nothing too drastic.

Week 21

Both Hubba and I are busy packing for the move hence this week seemed to just flew by. Met my doctor for my 20 weeks appointment and discussed about the outcome of my 20 week anatomy scan. We also chatted about the low lying placenta and any concerns that I had. Apart from all that, baby is doing great and growing healthily.

Week 22

My mum came to visit this week to help out with the move. I’m so glad that mum is here to assist and has been a wonderful help. Like I’m not kidding. I tried to do as much as I could but I didn’t last very long – Mum and hubba did all the hard work. Although I did quite abit of cleaning and boy was that tough! By the end of the night I couldn’t walk as my back was killing me! I think I overdid it. Mum also brought with her heaps of baby stuff for Sunshine and they are all pink! I think this overly anxious grandma has outdone herself.

Week 23

This week, I had my first appointment with the maternity hospital that I’ve elected to have my baby at and met up with the midwife there. This first appointment was mainly getting the paperwork done. She also did a routine check-up on me and went through heaps of questionnaire as a protocol. The midwife on duty that day was very lovely and so sweet that it made me feel at ease with my choice of hospital. She also scheduled me for a follow up ultrasound at 32 weeks to have a look at the placenta and booked me in for my glucose test at 28 weeks, which is merely in a month’s time.

Week 24

I am officially 6 months preggo already! What a milestone reached! This week I am actually starting to feel baby’s movements and kicks more strongly and frequently. When I placed my hand on my tummy, I could feel the kicks/ vibration on my palm. It’s quite amusing! John tried to put his hand on my tummy but whenever he does that, baby stop kicking. Poor bugger! My tummy is massive now and my centre of gravity has shifted and I feel so clumsy! I am also starting to experience swollen feet lately and it’s very uncomfortable. It used to be just the fingers but I guess it’s gone down south now. Oh boy. I’m also starting to get frequent heartburn now and it's not very pleasant!
